About CBS Canada
Ninety Years of Getting It Right.
Credit Bureau Services Canada has been helping Canadian businesses recover outstanding receivables since 1932.
Our Story
Three Generations. One Promise.
What started as a one-room office during the Great Depression has grown into one of Canada's most trusted receivables management firms. Still family-owned, still independent, and still doing things the right way.
Pioneering Our Practice
A family started a business on a handshake and a belief that people deserved to be treated fairly, even when they owed money. The work was straightforward: recover what was owed, do it honestly, and protect the client's reputation in the process.
There was no playbook for it. The industry barely existed. But the principle was simple enough to build on, and that's exactly what happened.
A Business Built to Last
As the business grew, so did the team. But the principles stayed the same. Each new generation brought fresh ideas without abandoning what made the firm trusted in the first place.
The name on the door never changed because ownership never left the family. That independence meant the company could focus on what mattered: doing right by its clients, year after year.
“Our clients know us by name. They call us directly. That kind of trust takes decades to build, and we never take it for granted.”
— Steve Cook, President
Modern Tools. Traditional Values.
Today CBS Canada serves clients across the country with modern technology, bilingual professionals, and nine decades of institutional knowledge. The business has evolved, but the family commitment to honest, accountable collections hasn't.
We answer to our clients, not to shareholders. That has always been the difference, and it always will be.
Three generations of our family have built this business on a simple belief: that the people who trust us deserve honesty, accountability and, above all else, results. We answer to our clients, not to shareholders. After 90+ years, the name on our door still means everything to us.
Our Team
Experience, In Spades.
When your average staff tenure is 18 years, it is not a job — it is a career. Our collectors, account managers, and legal professionals have been doing this work for decades. That experience is a structural advantage no technology can replace.
Dedicated Account Managers
Every client is assigned a named account manager. Not a call centre. Not a rotating team. One person who knows your portfolio and answers your calls.
18-Year Average Tenure
Our people stay because they believe in the work. That continuity means institutional knowledge, consistent results, and relationships that last.
Bilingual Professionals
Our team serves clients and communicates with debtors in both English and French, with the cultural fluency and regulatory knowledge each province requires.

Industry Memberships
Recognized by the Industry
CBS Canada maintains active membership in both national collection industry associations. These memberships are not honorary — they require adherence to strict codes of conduct and professional standards.
RMA Canada
Receivables Management Association of Canada
RMA Canada is the national trade association representing the receivables management industry. Members must comply with a strict code of conduct that governs fair treatment of consumers, privacy protection, and ethical collection practices.
Membership in RMA Canada signals that an agency operates at the highest professional standard in the country.
CSCA
Canadian Security and Collection Association
The CSCA sets industry standards for security and collection services across Canada. Members are held to documented standards of professionalism, compliance, and service quality.
CBS Canada's dual membership in both RMA Canada and the CSCA reflects our commitment to operating at the top of an industry that demands accountability.
Compliance
Respecting the Rules
Debt collection in Canada is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the country. Provincial legislation, federal privacy law, and credit bureau reporting standards all impose strict requirements on how we operate. We don't treat compliance as a box to check; it is built into every process we run.
- PIPEDA — Full compliance with Canada's federal privacy legislation governing the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information
- CDSSA — Adherence to the Collection and Debt Settlement Services Act and all applicable provincial regulations
- Quebec Regulations — Compliance with Quebec's distinct consumer protection and collection legislation, including language requirements
- TransUnion & Equifax Standards — Reporting to both major Canadian credit bureaus under their strict data quality and accuracy standards

Modern Tools
Technology That Supports Judgment, Not Replaces It
We invest in modern tools to make our experienced team more effective. But we never lose sight of the fact that debt collection is a human business. The tools serve the people, not the other way around.
AI-Assisted Quality Monitoring
Artificial intelligence helps us monitor call quality, flag compliance risks, and identify coaching opportunities in real time, ensuring every interaction meets our standards.
Digital Communication
Modern consumers expect to communicate on their terms. We use digital channels alongside traditional methods to reach debtors where they are and increase engagement.
Data-Driven Scoring
We use data-driven scoring models to prioritize accounts by recovery likelihood, so our collectors spend their time where it will generate the best results for you.
Technology makes our team faster and more informed. But every decision — when to call, what to say, when to escalate, when to recommend legal action — is made by an experienced professional who understands the context. Human judgment remains at the centre.
